Abundant harvest

zniwa01Today’s Word is incredibly rich, but for me, one sentence is important now: “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few.” Often we interpret these words in the context of vocations, because there is so much of God’s work to be done in the world, and the workers are still not enough. When I, however, think about vocations, it is not that I’d like some new women to come and relieve me from my duties 😉 It is more about finding a great treasure, which I would love to share with others .

Before the next Chapter, when we will be seeking ways to implement God’s plan, it’s hard not to think about the fact that we are less and less and in our human thinking we would of course like the Society to be growing. Maybe it’s the time to return to the “Little Society”, as our founder used to say? Or perhaps dying is a way for new life to be born? Let it be as God wishes. Only one worry accompanies me – that every young woman, which is called by God, may find the courage to follow her heart. So today I ask you all to pray for those who are still fighting in their hearts with a voice that they have heard and on this occasion, I want to share one of our beautiful prayers with you.

Prayer for vocations

God, whose power is love and whose heart is infinite,
You have called the Religious of the Sacred Heart
to discover and reveal your love
by living as women of the pierced Heart of Christ,
attentive both to your presence
and to the anguish and hope of your people.

Keep us faithful to your longings for us:
contemplative in spirit and mission
desirous of communion in a multicultural world
generous in forgiveness and reconciliation
and passionate for justice, peace and the integrity of creation.

By our witness,
attract other women to this same spirit and mission.

Join to our number those who
have a personal love of Jesus Christ
and are great-hearted and ready to reveal your face.

Give us companions who,
despite the ambiguities of this age,
will lean on the love of their sisters
as they root their lives in you.

Invite to the Society of the Sacred Heart
those who are generous and joy-filled like Madeleine Sophie,
those who are courageous and daring like Philippine,
and renew all Religious of the Sacred Heart in these habits of heart.

We ask this in confidence and hope through Christ,
risen and reigning with you and the Spirit,
now and forever.

Amen.
