Today I came back from Warsaw where we had our provincial meeting, which is a meeting of Sisters from all over Poland. These meetings are always a very important event for me. Besides the fact, that I can get to see my sisters from the Society, I can also get a different perspective which shows me, that I am not alone, I am part of a greater whole. That doesn’t mean that I need to agree with everyone and that everything we do is simple, easy and nice, but it means that my everyday struggle, which I often concentrate on, has a deeper meaning if you make it a part of the bigger puzzle. On a deeper level, we are all unified because we all feel the same call of Jesus, who is sending us to preach the love of the Heart of Jesus in the world.
It is very similar with our presence in the Church. The Church is not a building, it’s not the hierarchy, and not even the priests and nuns. The Church is all of us. Probably most of us know that, but probably most of us doesn’t feel it. If we only see each other at Mass every Sunday, there is a chance, that we don’t feel like part of a huge Church. It may help to realize that Christianity is the faith of the largest number of people on earth, or that in every small part of the world someone today will hear exactly the same readings from the same Bible, will speak the same words and, above all, receive the same Body of Christ. But this may not be enough to feel a part of the greater whole. We need a close community, people, who will be with us hand in hand walking towards the Kingdom of God. We need friends, who will help us find the right way, when we begin to get lost. We need people around us who will be crazy for Jesus, who will show us, that it’s worth to fight for the right thing. And this doesn’t mean, that they all will be perfect, because the Church is also my neighbor, which I don’t like and the lady who is always singing out of tune. The only important thing is that they all have the same target – salvation.
If your parish is not a place like that for you, make it be one. If you are not able, find another place, another community, other people. Don’t give up until you find the real Church. It really exists!
